USA-based insurance broker Aon Corp. said in a filing it paid more than $50 million last year to sponsor English Premier League club Manchester United. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Aon reported it had paid the club $58.4 million during the second quarter of 2009 . This includes a down payment of $14 million for each year of a four-year sponsorship agreement.
Aon has a four-year sponsorship agreement for $130 million to have its logo appear on players’ shirts. The brokerage took up sponsorship in May after American International Group’s agreement with the team lapsed.
