The Barclays banking group launched an advertising campaign tagged "Come face to face with some of football's brightest stars" in support of its sponsorship of the Barclays Asia Trophy which kicks off on 24 July in host country Hong Kong. This edition of the biannual English Premier League promotional tournament showcases Liverpool, Fulham, Portsmouth and Hong Kong FA Cup Winner, South China. The outdoor campaign, features Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, Portsmouth's Sol Campbell, Fulham's Liam Rosenior and South China's Detinho, and uses billboard ads as well as on buses and bus shelters with press ads in the South China Morning Post, Sunday Morning Post, Metro Daily, Oriental Daily and Next Magazine.
"Hong Kong is one of the financial hubs of Asia in which we have a growing presence. The Barclays Asia Trophy gives us powerful brand visibility and the chance to engage with football fans outside the UK. It's a unique opportunity for Hong Kong football fans to see Barclays Premier League teams and their star players live, and this is what we wanted to emphasise through our advertising campaign in Hong Kong," Robert Morrice, chairman and CEO of Barclays Asia said.
