A representative of the Vietnam Football Federation has stated that popular national coach Alfred Riedl will continue to guide the Vietnamese football team, rejecting the information from a newspaper of the United Arab Emirates that he will depart after the Asian Cup this month. Nguyen Lan Trung, PR manager of the Vietnamese football squad at Asian Cup 2007, said Riedl returned to Austria on July 23 for a routine health check after his recent kidney transplant operation. However, at a meeting with the national team after the quarter-final match against Iraq in Thailand, he'd said goodbye to players, saying that they would meet again on August 10 to prepare for the final qualifier round of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The official told VietNamNet Bridge that Riedl had confirmed he doesn’t intend to end his contract before its expiration in April 2008.
