The Malaysian Government is not involved in a civil suit filed by Gifted Group and G-14 against the world football body FIFA for withdrawing its endorsement for the Champions Youth Cup tournament in Kuala Lumpur scheduled for 5 to 17 August, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has announced. She said her ministry was not planning to take any action against FIFA for reversing its decision after having endorsed the tournament and was waiting for the outcome of the FIFA Executive Committee meeting on 1 June.
Last Wednesday, the secretive London-based Gifted Group, the promoter of the tournament, and G-14 filed a suit against FIFA in Brussels for reversing its decision. FIFA withdrew its approval for the tournament on 30 April after endorsing it in March on the grounds that it involved G-14, a European club-based football organisation it does not recognise.
