Vietnam Football Federation secretary general Tran Quoc Tuan advises that a letter sent to the football world body, FIFA, criticising Asian Football Confederation secretary-general Peter Velappan does not reflect the VFF’s official opinion.
At the opening ceremony of the recent FIFA Futuro 111 program, Velappan spoke of ASEAN football leaders that "talk incessantly about FIFA failing to help them as a means of explaining their slow development." Afterwards, a letter with 22 signatures of ASEAN football officials, including Vietnam, was sent to FIFA, criticising Velappan’s address.
According to Tuan, the letter only reflected the opinion of members at the training course, not the official point of view of VFF.
He said that trainees only opposed the opinion of Velappanno problem with because they thought his comment was untimely and unfair. In short, The Thao of VietNamNet reported, Mr Tuan "believes that Mr Velappan simply made a slip of tongue."
