Call for financial and player agent transparency

A FIFA working group including UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson and UEFA treasurer Mathieu Sprengers has called for greater financial transparency in transfer and player agent activities, the UEFA website reported.

The world football body said that the working group on financial matters, part of a FIFA Task Force chaired by Mr Sprengers, also urged good governance in the way that clubs managed their financial affairs. The implications of multiple club ownership and betting on the integrity of football competitions were also on the agenda.

FIFA said a number of concrete proposals drawn up by the working group would be submitted to the FIFA Executive Committee at its next meeting on 16/17 March.

The working group also comprises FIFA General Secretary Urs Linsi; Asian Football Confederation general secretary Dato' Peter Velappan; Brazilian FA president Ricardo Terra Teixeira; Portuguese FA president and co-opted UEFA Executive Committee member Gilberto MadaĆl; English FA Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore; FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta; RSC Anderlecht president Roger Vanden Stock; and players' union FIFPro president Philippe Piat, as well as external experts.
