Two members of the Philippine's national football coaching staff have resigned, accepting lucrative jobs offered to them early last year by the Asian Football Confederation. Following Miguel David's move to the AFC’s Futsal Development Office, Marcelino Carpio, the national team’s goalkeeping coach, is now relocating to Kuala Lumpur as the AFC’s Development Officer for Asia, Peter Atencio reported in the Manila Standard.
“Nagpaalam na ako sa (RP) team at sa Philippine Football Federation,” said Carpio, who added that the job had been waiting for him even before the 23rd South East Asian Games was held in the country. The 36-year-old, who is married to former national track team member Edna Punelas, also quit as University of Santo Tomas’ longtime coach in women’s football in the UAAP. “The opportunities for me are there now. I can go to other countries and learn football,” he said.
